7) When I don't seem to respond to initial treatments, my dermatologist told me to be emotionally prepared for a vitiligo life-sentence. That warning hit me like a ton of bricks.

Suddenly, I came to realization that if I rely on my dermatologist 100% for a successful treatment of my vitiligo, I'll be destined to a vitiligo life-sentence, slowly but surely.

Heck, he has already told me so ...

I realized that I need to be in the driver's seat, not my dermatologist. I must take charge of my own fate, my own destiny ... if I want to avoid the vitiligo life-sentence.

Realizing that no one has monopoly over knowledge, I decided to give myself an urgent and important assignment - to read all that I need to read, to talk to as many people as possible, in order to know all that I need to know about vitiligo.

I wanted to be a "layman expert" on vitiligo skin disorder and participate actively in determining the best treatment plan for myself.

Why? Because I've discovered that ...

Just because a person
wears a white robe,
uses technical
medical jargons
and calls himself
a dermatologist,
a trained doctor
... does NOT
necessarily mean
he knows EVERYTHING
about vitiligo
and is always RIGHT
It's my sincere advice to you that you should do the same too.

8) With due respect to the medical and scientific experts in vitiligo, I strongly believe ...

Just because they
are of the opinion
that "vitiligo
has NO-KNOWN CURE"
does NOT mean vitiligo
CANNOT be cured.
It merely means
"they DO NOT know
*HOW* to cure it"
That's a world of difference between that two statements, liken to day and night.

Many vitiligo patients had obediently and unfortunately accepted this HALF-TRUTH as THE TRUTH.

"Vitiligo is a NO-KNOWN CAUSE and NO-KNOWN CURE skin disorder. So why waste time and money trying to treat it?"

This HALF-TRUTH disguised as THE TRUTH had cause millions of vitiligo victims around the world to accept obediently and willingly the vitiligo life-sentence.

That's most unthinkable, unfortunate and unfair!

It's my belief that this blog must strive to use the power of the internet to expose and "correct" without fear or favor, what seemingly is THE TRUTH ... is actually ... in reality, a pathetic HALF-TRUTH.

I'm 31 years old and developed vitiligo at 12. I started treatment with a doctor in west palm beach florida, Dr. John P Kinney. I have been taking 5mg of folic acid which he prescribed me along with uv treatments three times a week. After five months my vitiligo is no longer visible. I only had it on my face bilateral. I continue taking the same amount of folic acid along with other vitimins -much importantly acidophulis. I also continue the uv treatments at home with my hand held derma pal. So in response to your question, in my case with the proper treatment pigment will return. I never used any other topical medications only epicuren facial products created by a man with vitiligo.

I'm one of those people are always looking for a cure. I have been blessed to have 95 percent of my pigment. It started when I was going through puberty. Age 14 is when it first appeared. It attacked my face first. Around my eyes, under my chin and a few spots around my mouth and cheek. I have had psorlen treatments in the past and all areas on my face recovered except the area around my eyes, which is a very sensitive area. So I wear cosmetices with the hope of one day finding a cure. I haven't given up yet.

I read your article and all of the different treatments that are available. I've never heard of Ginko Biloba to be a form of treatment. Well, long story short I will be trying it. I thank GOD that I haven't lost so much pigment that it is beyond reapair. I see so many claims to be the cure online it isn't funny. Which one is positive, which one is negative. I believe in taking chances but not willing to spend endless dollars on a farce.
